The Truckload Carriers Association introduced its new president, John Lybolt, during the morning general session of its annual convention, Mar. 8, in Las Vegas.

When Lybolt took the stage, he announced that the prior evening’s fundraising gala raised $275,000, all in cash donations, for the TCA scholarship fund that helps full-time college students associated with the truckload industry.

As the new TCA president, Lybolt said he will be managing the association like a business.

“We need to be more focused,” he said, and set the top priority as expediting new carrier member growth. “Not enough attention is being given to people who don’t know what TCA can offer.”

TCA’s resources also need to be more focused on things that drive improvements in the safety, profitability, participation, satisfaction and retention of its members, he said.

The idea of managing TCA like a business was welcomed by the new incoming TCA chairman, Russell Stubbs, who is the chairman of Dallas-based FFE Transportation, a less-than-truckload and truckload refrigerated carrier.

Stubbs is the third member in his family to serve a one-year term as TCA chairman. His grandfather Stony Stubbs served in 1969 and father Mit Stubbs served in 1996.

“As you all know, trucking has been very good to my family. Being involved in TCA as chairman will give me the opportunity to help shape the future of the truckload industry,” Stubbs said.

He mentioned a number of initiatives  TCA will be working on to help members be more profitable and solve long-term challenges.

“Under my watch, TCA will be collaborative with other organizations when it makes sense but it will never put the values of TCA at risk,” he said.
