Carry More. Do More. Cummins X12™ Diesel
If weight restrictions have limited the payload your fleet can carry on its trucks, here’s some good news. Cummins X12 weighs up to 600 pounds less than other medium-bore engines, significantly reducing front axle weight so fleets can pack their trailers with more freight and make fewer trips.
A sculptured block design allows unnecessary mass to be removed while retaining high rigidity. Substantial weight savings are also achieved by the use of high-strength composite materials for the oil pan and valve cover. The reduced weight of the X12 certainly doesn’t come at the expense of power output, as it delivers the highest power-to-weight ratio in its class, with up to 500 hp and 1700 lb-ft of peak torque.
The Productivity Champion.
Even the aftertreatment system is designed for lighter weight and higher efficiency. The Single Module™ aftertreatment system is up to 40 percent lighter than the two-unit system it replaces, with a compact design that can be positioned closer to the engine for better thermal efficiency with fewer regenerations and higher fuel efficiency.
The Cummins VGT Turbo delivers better acceleration with 90 percent of peak torque available in less than 1.5 seconds, faster warm-up and up to 30 percent stronger engine braking in the operational rpm range over the current ISX12. So you sacrifice nothing in terms of performance, while being able to haul a heavier payload.
The X12 base engine is delivering better fuel economy than competitive medium-bore engines (10-13L) in real-world testing. Plus, enabling the ADEPT electronic features on the X12 can further increase fuel economy by up to 6 percent.
From a maintenance standpoint, the compact design of the X12 makes it easier to service, and fleets can expect the maintenance intervals to be similar to the X15, decreasing vehicle downtime and reducing costs even further.
The X12 is fully compatible with Connected Diagnostics™, which wirelessly connects Cummins-powered vehicles to product experts at Cummins for immediate diagnosis of engine system faults using your on-board telematics. Service efficiency is further enhanced through the use of Cummins Guidanz™ and the INLINE™ Mini adapter, which reads engine data on a real-time basis and can e-mail fault code information from a smartphone to accelerate the diagnostic and repair process.
The X12 is compatible with the full range of transmissions, including automated manual transmissions (AMTs) such as the SmartAdvantage™ Powertrain, as well as automatic and manual gearboxes.
The X12 base platform has already delivered over 1 billion miles of reliable and durable performance in over 100,000 vehicles worldwide. In North America, the X12 has been fully tested across both regional haul and vocational applications. Its base warranty is 2 years/250,000 miles, whichever comes first. Like all Cummins engines, it is backed by Cummins Care, which has been streamlined for faster response to customer needs at 1-800-CUMMINS™ (1-800-286-6467). Plus, fleets have the reassurance of knowing that no matter where their next load takes them, their Cummins engine is backed by the largest, most capable parts and service network in North America with over 3,500 authorized locations.
The X12 is the ideal choice for regional haul, intermodal and vocational applications, and is scheduled for full production in March of 2018. Download the Cummins X12 brochure for additional details. Or you can get more information about the Cummins X12 at cumminsengines.com.
