ALK Technologies has developed mapping, mileage and routing software for commercial vehicles for nearly 30 years. Its onboard navigation software, CoPilot Truck, uses real-time position data from a wide variety of compatible mobile devices together with ALK’s PC Miler software database and routing engine to deliver turn-by-turn guidance.

An optional feature, Route-Sync, is available for fleets that want to automatically transfer their custom route settings from the PC Miler software deployed in the back office to CoPilot Truck through wireless communications. This feature may be useful for fleets to establish consistency in their mileages and routes and to monitor for out-of-route miles.

All reviewers favored the processing speed of the application, a feature that becomes especially useful when drivers miss a turn, prompting a need to calculate a new route. Some reviewers gave the application an average grade for its integration capabilities with their back-office systems.

“CoPilot is much faster with it residing on the Omnitracs unit versus our previous use of Navigo. Critical Event Reporting being integrated gives our drivers unprecedented access to real-world safety data. The 3 percent reduction in out of route miles, fuel savings, incident and accident reduction made CoPilot the fastest and best ROI out of any technology launch in our company’s history.”

“Integration requires work from all vendor partners. It needs the ERP (Transportation Management System, Mobile com provider and Navigation). Our experience to date is that the most difficult portion is having the Transportation Management System update functionality to leverage these processes. It is worth the effort. However, the infancy of the process takes dedication and patience.”
