XRS Mobile

XRS Corp., formerly known as XATA Corp., was one of the first companies to offer electronic logging software. In 2011 the company changed its business model and would no longer sell hardware for onboard computers. It has since transitioned to an all-mobile software platform that is compatible with a range of smartphones and tablet devices.

The company’s e-log application comes standard on the new XRS mobile app which was initially released in early 2013. The software includes an online fleet management portal and variety of features for managing safety, compliance and driver performance.

Fleets gave mixed reviews for the new XRS e-log application and for the pre-2013 XATA application since the transition has happened. Most were satisfied with the low initial cost of the new XRS and driver experience compared to other systems they had evaluated, but some reviewers were not satisfied with the product’s reliability and support.

“A very good product overall. Takes a little longer to integrate it into the bus industry than we first thought.  Has great potential. ”

“Initial cost was excellent, but this system has been riddled with problems. The log editor is hard to use and very time consuming. The software updates have caused some hardware failures. When it works the drivers are happy with the interface features. There is little training needed. Once the bugs are fixed I can see this product being very helpful but with only a portion of the units working at any given time the data gained is incomplete. If your using this product now make sure you have a paper log book for backup.”

“It is a simple system but service support can be hard to get in touch with. The GPS often does not keep up with the actual driving time affecting the hours of service.”

“XRS was very difficult to implement when we started about 3 years ago, although I think they knew that was a problem area and have made some improvements. All around it’s great for the price. We use it with Verizon as our service provider. It’s easy to use for the drivers, and they all get a Samsung Galaxy tab as their interface with the system, which they like. I would like some additional features, like text blocking when the vehicle is in motion and PC Miler type routing. I’d also like it to be easier to add unassigned miles to the drivers they belong to, but the other log editing features are easy enough to use. The idling reports are useful and the IFTA reporting is fairly easy. Overall, for the cost, we are very pleased with the system.”
