Several OEMs issue recalls of trucks, trailers over issues with lights, tires, more

A number of truck and trailer manufacturers recently announced recalls for issues including tires, lights, power steering and more, according to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration documents.

Paccar is recalling approximately 1,619 model year 2013-2019 Kenworth T680, Kenworth T880 and Peterbilt 579 tractors that are longer than 30 feet and equipped with side exterior-mounted intermediate marker lamp/turn signals that don’t include a reflex reflector. Paccar says both intermediate side marker lamps and reflex reflectors are required to comply with federal vehicle safety regulations.

Paccar will notify owners of affected trucks, and dealers will install reflex reflector tape for free. Owners can contact Paccar customer service at 1-918-259-3258 with recall number 18KWF and 18PBC. NHTSA’s recall number is 18V-816.

Mack Trucks and Volvo Trucks are recalling more than 900 trucks equipped with Bridgestone M854 tires with DOT date codes 2418-2518, Bridgestone M860A tires with DOT date code 2518 or Bridgestone M864 tires with DOT date codes 2318-2418, all of size 425/65R22.5.

Mack’s recall affects approximately 818 model year 2019 Granite, LR and Terrapro trucks, while Volvo’s recall affects approximately 103 model year 2019 VHD and VNL trucks. In the affected tires, the sidewall steel body cords may be exposed, possibly causing unexpected rapid air loss while driving.

Mack and Volvo will notify owners, instructing them to take their trucks to Bridgestone or Mack or Volvo service centers for inspection and replacement for free. Mack owners can contact customer service at 1-800-866-1177 with recall number SC0412. NHTSA’s recall number is 18V-810. Volvo owners can contact customer service at 1-800-528-6586 with recall number RVXX1803. NHTSA’s recall number is 18V-811.

Autocar also announced a recall that affects approximately 761 model year 2019 Xpeditor severe duty trucks. The power steering assist cylinder bracket may not be properly secured to the frame rail, possibly causing an increase in steering effort or loss of steering.

Autocar will notify affected owners, and dealers will properly secure the power steering assist bracket to the frame. Owners can contact Autocar customer service at 1-888-218-3611 or 1-877-973-3486 with recall number ACX-1803. NHTSA’s recall number is 18V-815.

Finally, Wabash National is recalling approximately 5,194 model year 2014-2019 van trailers equipped with limb deflectors. The limb deflectors installed on these trailers on the upper rear corner of the trailers may detach while moving.

Wabash will notify owners, and dealers will remove the limb deflectors for free. Owners can contact Wabash customer service at 1-765-771-5404 with recall number LEG201803. NHTSA’s recall number is 18V-808.
