Shipment volumes near pre-recession levels, expenditures hit record high, Cass reports
The freight transportation sector continued to strengthen in June, with both shipment volumes and expenditures rising once again on the latest Cass Freight Index. Both indexes have increased every month since January. And even though some measures of the overall economy indicate weakness, the freight sector has gained momentum throughout 2014.

Mileage-based pay cannot be abandoned, a panel of fleet executives agreed Tuesday, but the system must be adjusted to compensate truck drivers for the time they spend and the work they do when the wheels aren’t turning.
