Trucking employment continues upward momentum in November

The for-hire trucking industry added 1,100 jobs in November, according to the Department of Labor’s most recent report. The highlight of the month’s employment report, however, was the DOL’s upward revision of October’s figures, which now show a 6,800-job gain — up from the 3,000-job gain reported in October’s preliminary report.

With November’s gains, the for-hire trucking industry has now shown employment increases five months straight, starting in July.

The U.S. economy as a whole in November added 178,000 jobs, pushing the country’s unemployment rate to 4.6 percent.

Employment in the for-hire trucking industry totaled 1.47 million in November. The number does not include private carriers and is based on payroll stats.

The transportation and warehousing sector as a whole added 8,900 jobs in November. Manufacturing lost 4,000 jobs. The construction industry added 19,000 jobs.
