After falling for eight of the previous nine weeks, the U.S. average price for a gallon of diesel climbed 4.9 cents to $3.899 for the week ended Monday, July 11, according to the U.S. Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration. The price is 99.6 cents higher than the same week last year.
The average price of diesel climbed in all regions tracked by DOE except for the Rocky Mountains, where prices fell 1.3 cent to $3.838, the nation’s cheapest diesel. The largest increase was 6.0 cents in the Lower Atlantic, where prices climbed to $3.872. The nation’s most expensive diesel was in California, where prices increased 3.4 cents to $4.099.
