With Green House Gas Phase 2 poised to demand better efficiency from semi trailers, Utility Trailer is redesigning the company’s side skirts, the company announced Wednesday.
The USS-120A-4 side skirts will feature a new one-piece design that Craig Bennett, Utility Trailer’s senior vice president sales and marketing, says reduces weight by upwards of 30 pounds while cutting cost and adding durability.
Bennett says the redesign features a unique bolted spring shaped bracket that provides flexibility while maintaining a secure attachment to the support leg wing plate.
The forward edge of the skirt is securely bolted with a spring attachment at the support leg assembly to reduce impact damage. The bracing system allows the skirt to flex both inward and outward.
“It will stay looking straighter longer,” Bennett says.
Fiberglass reinforced plastic construction adds rigidity and UV-protection resists damage and fading.
