ALK Technologies Inc. on Friday, Oct. 14, announced the availability of CoPilot Truck Optimized by Qualcomm, which is designed for Qualcomm Inc.’s Mobile Computing Platform 200 and 110. The integration combines ALK’s CoPilot Truck commercial truck GPS navigation solution, PC Miler routing and Qualcomm’s In-Motion User Interface with text-to-speech functionality.

ALK Technologies, a provider of mobile navigation solutions, made the announcement at the American Trucking Associations’ Management Conference and Exhibition being held in Grapevine, Texas. Demonstrations of CoPilot Truck Optimized by Qualcomm for the MCP200, MCP110 and MCP50 are available at ALK’s booth 1104 and at Qualcomm’s booth 604.

CoPilot Truck is designed to calculate optimal truck-specific routes onboard. Voice-guided truck-specific turn-by-turn directions are generated automatically, and CoPilot Truck is programmed to calculate a new route instantly if a driver misses a turn or goes off his planned route.

CoPilot Truck uses street-level ALK Digital Maps of the United States and Canada, enhanced with PC Miler truck-specific attributes and millions of points of interest, including truck services, truckstops, rest areas and weigh stations, all stored on the MCP200 and MCP110 devices. This driver-centric navigation solution is designed to deliver routes based on custom vehicle profiles, routing parameters and load-specific information.

“CoPilot Truck Optimized by Qualcomm provides users of the Qualcomm Mobile Computing Platform a state-of-the-art navigation system,” says Norm Ellis, vice president of sales, services and marketing for Qualcomm Enterprise Services. “ALK’s technology brings the potential for great cost savings for MCP-equipped fleets by improving fuel efficiency, driver safety, compliance and on-time performance.”

Navigation features include 2D, 3D and Driver Safety guidance views with signpost information and lane markings, along with voice instructions using text-to-speech technology to pronounce full street names. Automatic alerts appear onscreen to warn the driver of upcoming potential hazards. CoPilot Truck’s voice-guided navigation provides hands-free truck-legal directions.
