Bestpass, providers of bulk purchasing and streamlined toll management services to commercial fleets, announced that its growing client roster includes fleets of all types and sizes.

“The number of trucking operations that are using our toll management and discount services is expanding, not just in volume but also to include fleets of all sizes,” said John Andrews, president and CEO of Bestpass. “Our current client list includes single truck owner operators to fleets as small as 17 vehicles and as big as more than 7,300 vehicles.

Bestpass now has more than 250,000 pieces of equipment and over 125,000 transponders in service, and is processing over $22 million in tolls monthly for trucking operations, he added.

Some of the motor carriers using its services include:

Mullan Transportation, a 48-state general freight carrier based in Maumee, Ohio. The company is using Bestpass on its 13 vehicles, which include 11 Class 7 straight trucks and two tractors. “Our leased drivers pay their own tolls,” said George W. Mullan, III, president. “With Bestpass, we’re making deeper toll discounts available to drivers, as much as $8,500 for the entire fleet in the past six years. We’re also providing a system, including direct reimbursement from the carrier the trucks are leased to, so that our drivers have no out of pocket expenses for tolls and almost no management responsibilities over numerous tolling authorities. The small cost we incur for transponders is easily returned in driver retention.”

RAM Motor Freight, Inc., a division of RAM Nationwide, Inc. based in Cincinnati, Ohio. The company operates about 80 vehicles with Bestpass. “Toll discounts are the primary benefit,” said Steve Kittle, director of safety & recruiting. “Convenience is also a definite factor. With Bestpass our drivers do not have to carry cash or obtain and turn in receipts, and it gets them through the toll plazas more quickly. Consolidated billing, conflict resolution services and using a single transponder for toll and weigh station bypass ease the management burden as well.”

Thomas E. Keller Trucking, a Sullivan, Illinois freight hauler, fields 225 tractors in over-the-road and regional service. “The customer service that Bestpass provides is far and away the best in the industry,” said Blake Martin, business development specialist. “If we need a pass or a question answered, they have an immediate response and do not stop until we are satisfied with the situation. All of our various accounts are receiving the maximum discount, and we get one consolidated bill ready to upload into our financials. Additionally, Bestpass is our biggest advocate when we run into toll issues.”

Werner Enterprises, Inc., headquartered in Omaha, has a fleet of approximately 7,100 tractors and over 24,000 trailers, and is among the five largest truckload carriers in the U.S. “Bestpass is providing us with as much as $200,000 in annual savings by successfully renegotiating existing toll discounts, finding new opportunities to lower costs, and resolving transponder violation issues,” said Alicia Rist, manager of driver payroll, permits and tolls. “Bestpass is very proactive in everything they’re doing. They are constantly asking what they can do to serve us more effectively, and they always have the carrier’s best interest in mind, all at a lower cost.”
