BoydBoyd TruckDempsey Boyd, founder of Boyd Bros. Transportation in Clayton, Ala., died Tuesday, Oct. 30, at his home in Clayton after a battle with an undisclosed illness, according to a report in The Eufala Tribune.

Boyd started the company as an owner-operator hauling dry van in 1956, before growing the operation into a small fleet. He saw the opportunity in flatbed and started cycling out his vans for flatbed trailers, paving the way for the company’s boom into a national flatbed fleet with 730 trucks and drivers and 85 owner-operators, making it one of the largest flatbed fleets in the country.
