The U.S. average price for a gallon of diesel declined for the eighth time in nine weeks during the week ended Monday, July 4, this time falling 3.8 cents to $3.85 a gallon, according to the U.S. Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration. The price has fallen 27.4 cents since May 2 but remains 92.6 cents higher than the same week last year.
The average price of diesel declined in all regions tracked by DOE, which delayed its weekly update one day because of the Fourth of July holiday. The largest drop was 8.1 cents in California, where prices fell to $4.065, still the nation’s most expensive diesel. The smallest decline was 2.4 cents in the Midwest, where prices fell to $3.818. The nation’s cheapest diesel was on the Gulf Coast, where prices declined 3.6 cents to $3.798.
