Transfix, an on-demand freight logistics marketplace and trucking mobile solutions company, announced the launch of a mobile app for over-the-road (OTR) drivers.

Transfix, which has brokerage authority, released this new mobile app for drivers as it continues testing a load management system for shippers. Loads entered into this system are instantly sent to an approved list of independent contractors and carriers for acceptance.

The loads are presented to carriers based on the real-time location of their equipment and load preferences. The company is currently developing a full, and free, transportation management system for carriers as well.

“What we’re seeing is that TMS systems are really expensive. We think a pain point for small carriers is that they can’t upgrade their technology,” says Jonathan Salama, chief technology officer of Transfix. “As a dispatcher, you can track trucks for free and assign them to one of our loads. Very soon, you can also manage loads that have not gone through us. Everything could be done within our platform.”

The company is working on algorithm that will determine if trucks in the system are loaded or empty. This information will help to further narrow the loads presented to carriers to make the tendering process more efficient, he says.

The latest release, the free mobile app for drivers, provides trip planning functionality and load management capabilities for Transfix Drivers, who are OTR contractors that are registered with the company to accept Transfix-brokered loads.

The mobile app works in conjunction with its load management system to automate the tracking and payment process.
