When regional tanker fleet Crossett implemented Propel IT’s FuelOpps fuel efficiency system for truck fleets, they were hopeful for a 3 percent fuel cost savings. The results are in and the fleet has seen a 5 percent reduction in fuel burn.
Propel IT, a Qualcomm and PeopleNet partner, developed FuelOpps as a cost effective system that combines business intelligence with incentives. Drivers receive daily feedback over driving behaviors they control. The FuelOpps score eliminates factors that affect a driver’s MPG but are out of his hands such as engine make, load and climate conditions.
“Regardless of the age of the truck, geography or load, there is a most efficient way to drive that vehicle and FuelOpps effectively teaches and rewards drivers for doing just that,” says Worth Archambault, director of business development for Propel IT.
Larry Babcock, a driver for Crossett, said it has been easy to keep track of his own driving and being rewarded for saving the company money.
“Improvement is good for everyone. The less money our company spends, the less I have to worry about my job security.”
Crossett CFO, Mark Vernallis, added: “Our drivers latched onto the FuelOpps program almost immediately. To be able to reduce such a large portion of our operating budget by such a big number is a real testament to the Propel Team, the FuelOpps technology and Crossett drivers.”
Crossett is located in northwestern Pennsylvania and serves its customers throughout the eastern United States and Canada – primarily in Pennsylvania, New York, Ohio, West Virginia and Ontario, Canada.
