The national average retail diesel price fell 5.2 cents to $3.729 a gallon during the week ended Monday, June 18, according to the U.S. Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration. It was the 10th straight weekly decline; during that time, the price of diesel has dropped 41.8 cents a gallon. The average price is 22.1 cents below the same week last year. Prices are under $4 in all regions for the first time since early October.
Average retail prices fell in all regions, led by a 10-cent decrease in the California, where diesel nevertheless remains the nation’s most expensive on average at $3.966 a gallon. The smallest decreases were 4.1 cents a gallon in the Central Atlantic, Midwest and Rocky Mountain Region. The least expensive diesel on average was $3.654 a gallon in the Gulf Coast region, edging out prices in the Midwest by a tenth of a cent.
