Diesel price stagnates, remains below $4

The national average diesel price for the week ended Nov. 19 dropped 0.4 cents from the previous week to $3.976 a gallon, according to the U.S. Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration. That price is 3.4 cents a gallon lower than the same week in 2011. 

Prices continued to fall regionally, too, and all regions but the Midwest, Central Atlantic and Lower Atlantic saw prices fall. 

The biggest drop was in the West Coast less California region, where the average price dropped 6 cents to $4.038 a gallon. California’s average price dropped 1.8 cents to $4.142 a gallon. Prices also fell in the Rocky Mountain, Gulf Coast and New England regions. 

The Lower Atlantic region had the biggest price increase, rising 2.3 cents to $3.935 a gallon. 

The Gulf Coast region had the lowest average price, $3.865, while the New England area had the highest average price, $4.197 — a price still reflecting the effects of Hurricane Sandy’s landfall in the area at the beginning of the month. 

Prices in all regions but the Lower Atlantic, Midwest and Gulf Coast remained above $4.
