FMCSA orders four reincarnated carriers to shut down

After it was discovered that four fleets were all using the same trucks, drivers and management structure in an attempt to slip out from out-of-service orders, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration announced this week that it has shut down four trucking companies based in Olathe, Kan.

Royal Transport; Nationwide, Inc.; Freight, Inc.; and Midwest A, Inc. were basically all the same fleet, FMCSA says, with Freight, Inc., and Midwest A being created to duck an out-of-service order issued to Nationwide in 2008. During its investigation, the agency discovered the three companies were using the same trucks and drivers as Royal.

FMCSA used its “chameleon” carrier rule designed to shut down reincarnated carriers that essentially have the same operation as a previously shut down carrier, just under a different name.
