Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration issued a $83,120 civil penalty notice to Lehane’s Bus Service Inc. of New Castle, Del., for alleged federal motor carrier safety violations, including employing a driver who tested positive for a controlled substance, failing to conduct periodic random drug and alcohol testing, operating vehicles without the required federal minimum levels of insurance and operating vehicles that had not been inspected for safety defects as federally required.
Federal Highway Administration will award $2 million in Highways for Life grants to test and evaluate highway technologies that are ready for implementation. FHWA says it will look for innovative approaches that improve work zone safety, reduce congestion due to road construction, and improve and accelerate construction. Con-way Freight was recognized by the Idaho Trucking Association for Outstanding Achievement in Highway Safety in the 1-3 Million Miles Division based on miles driven in Idaho, types of driving, number of accidents and other safety indicators.
DistTech was honored by the Ohio Trucking Association with the Fleet Safety Award in the Large Division (5,000,001-10,000,000 miles). In 2008, the liquid bulk hauler had only two recordable accidents for the more than 5.4 million miles driven by its fleet in Ohio.
