J. J. Keller & Associates announced $6 E-Logs, a low-cost electronic hours-of-service solution. With Comprehensive Safety Analysis 2010 looming and the electronic onboard recorder mandate on the way from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, the company says its $6 E-Log solution will help carriers of all sizes manage hours-of-service compliance.

“Since 1953, J. J. Keller has helped companies comply with the hours-of-service regulations by offering log books, training, auditing services, and more,” says James J. Keller, president and chief operating officer at J. J. Keller & Associates. “What was once a cost prohibitive solution for small- and mid-sized fleets is now a reality. As part of our commitment to the industry, J. J. Keller has developed a solution that is affordable for fleets of all sizes – allowing them to run legally and save lives.”

The $6 E-Logs, powered by J. J. Keller’s Encompass, are priced per driver per month and require a one-time purchase of an onboard recorder for $199. Once data is captured, J. J. Keller Encompass audits all of a company’s driver logs, providing them with online reporting and compliance information that can immediately improve their operation.

During a live poll of nearly 1,000 transportation professionals by J. J. Keller & Associates, Inc., over 40 percent of respondents said that cost is the main reason that they are not using E-Logs. DOT estimates show that most carriers should actually see a cost benefit as a result of the installation and use of an EOBR solution.

“Based on a cost-benefit analysis, the FMCSA estimates the safety benefits of EOBRs to be about $890 per year per power unit. These safety benefits are based on preventing about half of the hours-of-service violations, so they think EOBRs will help prevent about 50 percent of the violations at these carriers, not all of them,” says Daren Hansen, transportation safety editor at J. J. Keller.

J. J. Keller will be hosting a webcast, The New EOBR Rule and Effective Hours of Service Management, on Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at 1:00PM Central Time.
