The Port of Tacoma said intermodal lifts grew 14 percent year to date in May, driven by an increase in imports and exports moving by rail. The domestic intermodal business also grew more than 10 percent year to date. Breakbulk volumes posted a 93 percent gain year to date in May, and auto imports improved 12 percent.
Container volumes through Tacoma remained fairly steady through May, dipping 0.6 percent year to date. Imports and exports grew 6 percent, but domestic volumes dropped 5.4 percent year to date. Despite the decline, domestic trade showed promise in May, the port said, with its highest monthly volume so far this year.
