PeopleNet, a provider integrated onboard computing and mobile communications systems, announced that Towne Air Freight has begun to install its Blu.2 in-cab technology and mobile communication system in its entire nationwide linehaul fleet. “Being new to in-cab technology, we really scrutinized and compared just about every provider,” says Jerry Scott, Towne Air Freight’s vice president of human resources. “When it came to pricing and a wide range of offerings, PeopleNet was head and shoulders above the pack.”

The South Bend, Ind.-based national provider of airport-to-door, door-to-airport and airport-to-airport services says it initiated its search for technology to help cost-effectively manage Compliance Safety Accountability adherence with electronic logs, streamline safety training and tracking of independent contractors with video modules for running in the cab.

“We saw a tremendous opportunity to improve both our safety and efficiency by replacing telephone communications with e-mail dispatch-to-driver communication,” says Scott. “In addition, PeopleNet’s GPS technology further enables us to provide even better service to our entire customer base by automatically initiating shipment status updates.”
