In the wake of record-breaking International segment earnings, a restructuring of pension liabilities and more year-over-year package deliveries, UPS announced $1.6 billion in operating profit on $13.07 billion in revenue.

Revenue in the same quarter last year was $13.17 billion, while average packages per day rose year-over-year to 15.5 million up from 15.1 million in the third quarter of 2011.

The company says that year to date (ending Sept. 30), it has generated “free cash flow in excess of $3.6 billion.”

The report says “rapid e-commerce growth” was responsible for the gains in daily domestic volume — 13.2 million this year compared to 12.7 million in 2011.
