ALK Technologies says its third annual ALK Transportation Technology Summit — scheduled for Tuesday, April 24, at the Westin in Princeton, N.J. — will offer a wealth of illuminating speakers, presentations and roundtables for senior-level transportation executives. ALK Technologies developed and provides profit-oriented PC Miler and CoPilot routing, mileage, mapping and navigation software.

The theme of this year’s summit is “Navigating a New Route.” Attendees from transportation, logistics and manufacturing companies, as well as technology providers, will survey the rapidly evolving transportation industry to identify new issues, trends and challenges. Speakers and participants will discuss new ways to dynamically adapt, compete and prosper.

ALK founder Dr. Alain Kornhauser, who will keynote the program, is professor of operations research and financial engineering, as well as director of the transportation program, at Princeton University. In the 1970s, Kornhauser spearheaded the application of technology to transportation challenges, an ongoing effort he continues to lead.

Following the keynote address, Stanford Erickson, associate publisher with Transport Topics Publishing Group, will assess the trucking industry outlook from a general economic vantage point. Later, executives from top North American motor carriers — including US XPress Enterprises, Pitt Ohio Express, Ward Trucking and others — will discuss their individual companies’ introduction and integration of navigation, toll cost management and mobile communications solutions.

Top trucking technology providers will offer overviews of current and future solutions, as well as their experiences in numerous deployment scenarios. Providers on hand will include industry providers and event sponsors Descartes, Intermec, PeopleNet and SMC3. Leading enterprise software suppliers — Innovative Computing Corp., McLeod Software and TMW Systems — also will be represented.

Among the practical technology topics to be addressed are electronic onboard recorders, fuel optimization, toll cost management, enterprise management systems, solutions integration, Web services, rating innovations, mobile computing, open source software and customs compliance.
