An information and diagnostic software package option for use with Palm handheld computers is now available from Caterpillar. The Caterpillar Pocket Technician software provides access to 22 engine status parameters, and 23 configuration parameters, 11 of which are changeable.
The company says the package option, “could replace more than $2,000 worth of tooling, while providing 95 percent of the requested functions that tooling provides.” The software extracts ECM information to display fuel mileage data to drivers and fleet managers, and can both upload and download data to and from Fleet Information Software. It can also adjust changeable engine parameters. It interprets diagnostic codes and specifies recommended actions. It also provides trip log functions and can assist with monitoring fuel mileage and understanding the factors that affect it.
