UltraTech’s Ultra-Grate Guard is designed to prevent sediment or hydrocarbons from entering storm drains and catch basin inlets. It consists of a durable, polymer filter that slips over the iron grate covering the drain. It has lifting straps to make it easy to tilt the grate back up and remove it for cleaning.
The company says that sediment builds up in such a way as to make it obvious when the unit needs to be cleaned. A special oil-absorbing model includes integral, oil-absorbing pillows which are sandwiched between Ultra-GrateGuard and the grating so the oil will cause runoff to percolate through the pillow. It is available in various sizes to match grate size.
