Celadon Group won approval from a federal bankruptcy court to acquire certain assets of Burlington Motor Carriers. The ruling allows Celadon to acquire customer contracts and lists, tractors and trailers, office equipment and general intangibles.

Umthun Trucking Co., Eagle Grove, Iowa, ceased operations at the end of February. Fort Dodge, Iowa-based Decker Truck Line agreed to provide service to many Umthun customers and offered employment to many Umthun drivers and other employees.

Minnesota’s legislature enacted a bill requiring that diesel sold in the state contain 2 percent biodiesel by June 2005. The state trucking association says the measure could raise the price of fuel without providing significant environmental benefits.

Eaton Corp. said it plans to become a primary supplier of hybrid-electric vehicle powertrain technology for commercial vehicles. HEV technology will provide fuel efficiency and reduce emissions and will represent a bridge to future fuel-cell powered vehicles, the company said.

Citizens for Reliable and Safe Highways and Parents Against Tired Truckers have established the Truck Safety Coalition, which will open a Washington, D.C., office and appoint an executive director to manage the work of both groups.
