As expected by most observers, President Bush has nominated Annette Sandberg to be administrator of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, a post she is filling already on an acting basis. Sandberg became FMCSA deputy administrator in November and has carried out the duties of administrator since Joseph Clapp retired at the end of the year. Previously, Sandberg was deputy administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and was chief of the Washington State Patrol for six years. Sandberg holds a law degree and a master’s degree in business administration.
