In Focus: Suspensions

Don’t let suspensions be the “forgotten component” on your vehicles. Spec’ing the right suspension is critical, since it must: support vertical loads; transfer longitudinal, acceleration and deceleration forces between axles and frame; provide chassis isolation or cushioning from axle motions; maintain wheel location and attitude; and provide stability or rollover resistance. This month, we look at tractor and truck suspensions, organized by the power unit make and model. We will address trailer suspensions in a future issue.
