The American Trucking Associations has launched a web page soliciting anecdotal information from motor carriers and truck drivers about the effects of high fuel prices on their business. The online feature at www.truckline.com/fuelpricecrisis is part of ATA’s National Fuel Price Crisis Watch, an initiative designed to educate public officials on how fuel prices are hurting the trucking industry and the U.S. economy.

According to ATA, commercial trucks annually consume 49.8 billion gallons of fuel, including about 35 billion gallons of diesel. At current prices, the trucking industry would spend an unprecedented $80 billion on diesel fuel this year — $18 billion more than a year earlier and $28 billion more than in 2003.

Motor carriers and truckers also can e-mail their fuel reports to [email protected].
