Ellen Voie, executive director of Trucker Buddy International, is stepping down to direct Schneider National’s driver retention efforts in Green Bay, Wis.

Trucker Buddy is a nonprofit educational program in which truck drivers “adopt” classrooms by becoming pen pals, sending letters and photos from the road and, in the process, teaching students about a host of subjects, including geography, social studies and highway safety. Voie took over the Trucker Buddy position from the program’s founder, Gary King, in January 2000.

“Ellen has done an excellent job of advancing the mission of the organization and has made great strides in managing the program in a very positive manner,” says Greg Shipman, vice president of the Trucker Buddy board of directors.

In leaving, Voie says the truckers who volunteer for Trucker Buddy will always have a place in her heart. “I will miss the dedication of the drivers, and can’t describe how many friends I have made as executive director of Trucker Buddy International,” Voie says.

Don Nehring, president of the Trucker Buddy board of directors, says he would like to “fill Ellen’s position with someone who is as dedicated to the industry as Ellen. Ellen has left big shoes to fill, and she will be missed by all of us here at Trucker Buddy.”

Trucker Buddy will continue operations as usual while the board of directors searches for Voie’s successor. Resumes may be e-mailed to [email protected]. For more information on Trucker Buddy, go to www.truckerbuddy.org.
