C.H. Robinson Worldwide has reported a 50 percent jump in its fourth-quarter profit, driven by sharp gains in the company’s trucking and international freight-forwarding businesses.

For the final three months of 2005, C.H. Robinson says it posted a net income of $58.1 million, up from $38.6 million a year ago. Revenue for the three months ended Dec. 31 rose to $1.58 billion from $1.19 billion a year earlier. For the full year, C.H. Robinson’s net income rose 48 percent to $203.4 million, up from $137.3 million in 2004.

The company, which serves about 20,000 customers worldwide, says it is earmarking $50 million for capital spending in 2006 — about half of it going toward expanding the company’s headquarters in Eden Prairie, Minn.
