Delphi Corp. has introduced a satellite radio for the heavy-duty market based on research and feedback of commercial vehicle users. The new CD/MP3 radio with an integrated satellite receiver incorporates digital-quality audio in a compact package, according to the company. It can play and charge an iPod at the same time, Delphi says, and has an alarm clock with snooze function.

“We went directly to professional operators to learn their special preferences for the radio in their vehicles,” says Ken Erickson, Integrated Media Systems business line executive for Troy, Mich.-based Delphi. “We wanted to get feedback from the end-users of this product to get customer-driven direction on the design.”

The single DIN premium CD/MP3 radio is durably designed and SAE-J1455 compliant for rugged use in the harsh environment of commercial and off-highway vehicles, and display lighting is achieved through LED backlighting designed to extend display life. In addition, the radio eliminates the need for a remote satellite receiver, brackets and wiring harness for satellite radio, the company says.
