Old Dominion Freight Line has been recognized as one of the “100 Best Companies in the United States” by DeMarche Associates, an investment-research firm. The Thomasville, N.C.-based trucking firm was told of its 100 Best status in a Feb. 23 letter from DeMarche Chairman Robert Marchesi to Earl Congdon, Old Dominion chief executive officer.

The program, launched four years ago, recognizes U.S. companies for operating performance that significantly improves shareholder value. Based on proprietary research and analysis of each company’s fundamentals, the 100 organizations are recognized as the Best Companies — categorized by industry — for achieving regular performance within the top 3 percent of all major U.S. corporations.

“This is indeed an honor,” Congdon says. “Inclusion on DeMarche’s Top 100 list validates the consistent effort by Old Dominion over many years to deliver sound financial performance throughout our organization. This certainly lends credence to Old Dominion’s continuing effort to increase value for our stockholders and investors, customers and employees.”
