An Ohio lab was awarded a $1 million state grant to develop a small-scale solid oxide fuel cell platform into a complete auxiliary power unit for heavy trucks. The Edison Materials Technology Center in Dayton received the grant to manufacture the project devised by Technology Management Inc. in Cleveland.

The product may be on the market by 2011, Gov. Bob Taft’s office announced. The grant was awarded through Ohio’s Third Frontier Fuel Cell Program.
