Billings Transportation Group says it will lay off nearly all 225 workers today, April 21 when the trucking business closes operations in Lexington, N.C. The 84-year-old business, which ships textiles, says the layoffs are the result of textile companies moving overseas. Employees will get paid for the week, but they won’t receive severance packages. The company says it will help workers find other jobs.

Company president Mike Albert says Billings has sold two divisions to Aero Logistics, a midsized logistics company based in San Francisco. Aero plans to move some operations and eight Lexington employees to an existing office in Rural Hall, north of Winston-Salem.
