Iridium Satellite has announced that it has been selected by Argo Tracker Corp. to provide long-range data links for Argo Tracker’s real-time global asset tracking solutions. Argo Tracker will incorporate the Iridium 9601 short-burst data modem into its asset tracking system to provide global coverage in areas beyond the reach of terrestrial wireless networks.

“Argo Tracker is a perfect example of how Iridium’s short-burst data service can be leveraged to provide large-scale, enterprise-wide solutions for asset tracking and monitoring on a worldwide scale,” says Don Thoma, executive vice president of Bethesda, Md.-based Iridium.

The Argo Tracker system incorporates client-driven, custom configurations using GPS, other sensor capabilities and a Web-based user interface application. The system is designed to offer complete asset visibility throughout all phases of the supply chain from origin to destination.

“The addition of Iridium connectivity to our global product suite greatly enhances our value proposition to our customers, enabling international companies to manage their assets globally with a single technology solution, while also enhancing the security and maintaining the integrity of their shipments,” says Mike Hammons, chief executive officer of Tucson, Ariz.-based Argo Tracker. “The Iridium-enhanced Argo Tracker will permit companies to achieve rapid return on investment by reducing customer churn, decreasing operating expenses, improving margins and security, while concurrently fulfilling new and proposed regulatory mandates.”
