Transportation Secretary Norman Mineta named Quintin C. Kendall executive director of a federal commission to study new ways to pay for the nation’s highway and transit systems. He will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Surface Transportation Policy and Revenue Commission, which must report its findings and recommendations to Congress by July 1, 2007.

Kendall has been deputy assistant secretary for management and budget at the Department of Transportation since April 2005. He joined DOT in June 2002 as Mineta’s White House liaison.

The 12-member commission meets for the first time on May 24 in Washington, D.C. One of the members is Patrick Quinn, co-chairman of U.S. Xpress and current chairman of the American Trucking Associations.
