‘Voice’ of Nascar to speak at McLeod Software’s Users’ Conference

Award-winning sports broadcaster and “Voice” of Nascar, Eli Gold, will be a featured speaker during McLeod Software’s “The Power to do More” Users’ Conference, scheduled for Sept. 20-23 at the Wynfrey Hotel in Birmingham, Ala. Gold will speak during lunch on Thursday, Sept. 21.

“We are pleased that Eli Gold will be a featured speaker at our conference,” says Rick Halbrooks, vice president of sales and marketing for Birmingham-based McLeod Software. “Not only is Eli one of the most respected sports broadcasters in the country, but he is also one of the most entertaining.”

Since 1976, Gold has been a member of Nascar’s Motor Racing Network and has served the network as a co-anchor, turn announcer and pit reporter. Since 1982, Gold has hosted “Nascar Live,” a weekly, nationally syndicated radio call-in show that gives listeners a chance to chat with their favorite driver. Effective with the 1996 racing season, Gold began serving as the anchorman for The Nashville Network’s televised racing coverage. Gold also has worked in a play-by-play role with both CBS Sports and NBC Sports in their coverage of Nascar.

Gold also provides play-by-play coverage of the Arena Football League for NBC and FOX Sport Net. He also handles the play-by-play of NFL games and postseason college football bowls and all-star games for Sports USA. Additionally, Gold has been play-by-play “Voice” of the University Of Alabama Crimson Tide since 1988. He has been voted Alabama Sportscaster of the Year four times by his peers in the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association. He has twice been named the Alabama Sportscaster of the Year by the Associated Press and won the same honor once from United Press International. A native of Brooklyn, N.Y., Gold currently resides in Birmingham.
