Heavy-duty fire extinguishers suited for trucks

HalGuard says its “clean agent” extinguishers from H3R Performance are suited for protecting heavy-duty trucks equipped with expensive electrical and engine components. Available in 1.4-pound, 1B:C rated and 2.5-pound, 2B:C rated rechargeable red- or chrome-plated cylinders, HalGuard is a UL listed product that does not leave a messy residue when discharged, according to the company.

DOT regulations for heavy-duty trucks require fire extinguishers with a UL rating of 5 B:C or 10B:C, depending on what is being transported. H3R Performance also markets rechargeable MaxOut dry chemical fire extinguishers in 1- and 2.5-pound sizes, rated 2B:C and 1A:10B:C respectively. The 2.5-pound units exceed DOT fire extinguisher requirements.

Both MaxOut and HalGuard are effective on flammable liquid fires and do not conduct electricity back to the operator — which HalGuard cites as two important considerations when dealing with the types of fires most likely to occur on the road or during repairs. All include high-quality steel cylinders, all-metal valve construction and aviation-quality mounting brackets, the company says.
