House passes DOT funding bill

The U.S. House of Representatives on June 14 voted 406 to 22 to approve legislation (H.R. 5576) to fund the Department of Transportation, including the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, for the fiscal year beginning Oct. 1, 2006. During House floor action, lawmakers did not consider or adopt any amendments of particular interest to the trucking industry. The next step is Senate consideration.

H.R. 5576 would provide $223 million to fund FMCSA during fiscal 2007. That’s the amount of money requested by the Bush administration and $10 million more than was appropriated for the current fiscal year.
