Delphi makes progress toward fuel cell APU

Delphi Corp. says a company-led team working with the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Fossil Energy had achieved all the Phase 1 goals established by the Solid State Energy Conversion Alliance for a solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) auxiliary power unit.

The Phase 1 test, completed in April and validated in May, represents a milestone in Delphi’s plan to bring an SOFC APU to market by 2011, the company says. The test measured the goals established by the alliance in the areas of peak power performance, peak efficiency, power degradation and factory cost.
