Transport America driver Greg Payne was among a group of eight company drivers and professional contractors representing the company in the 60th annual Minnesota Truck Driving Championships held June 10-11 in Burnsville.

Payne, who competed in the sleeper berth division, advanced to the finals and finished in first place. He will represent Transport America and the state of Minnesota this summer at the National Truck Driving Championships in New Orleans.

At the Minnesota Truck Driving Championships, more than 100 of the state’s best and safest professional truck drivers competed for state titles in eight different classes and for the top honor of “Minnesota Grand Champion.” The classes included straight truck, three axle, four axle, five axle, tank truck, flatbed, twin trailer and sleeper berth.

In addition to demonstrating their driving skills by navigating a difficult obstacle course, drivers had to complete a knowledge test, interview and pre-trip inspection, where they were asked to identify planted safety defects on a tractor-trailer.
