Zonar Systems — a provider of integrated fleet telematics products — has announced that Mike Griffus, a nationally respected expert on pupil transportation and commercial trucking, has joined the company as director of sales. Griffus will lead the national and international sales team from Zonar’s office in Pleasanton, Calif.

“Mike Griffus has more than 20 years experience with every facet of fleet operation,” says Bill Brinton, director of marketing for Seattle-based Zonar. “His breadth of transportation-related operational and management experience is an invaluable addition to our company. As director of sales, Mike will manage and grow Zonar’s sales team, which currently spans the U.S., Canada and Australia.”

Griffus comes to Zonar from Laidlaw Transit, the world’s largest school bus fleet operator. As senior vice president for the western U.S. region, he managed 120 locations and more than 7,500 vehicles; operational efficiencies and other improvements he spearheaded resulted in dramatic increases in profitability, while also cutting in half the company’s accident rate and reducing insurance costs, according to Zonar. From 1981 to 1990, he held increasingly responsible positions with Leaseway Transportation, a trucking and contract logistics service provider; while there, he developed incentive-based systems for productivity and safety improvements.
