David L. Miller, president of Con-way Freight-Central, recently received the 2006 Seven Seals Award from the Indiana Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve. The ESGR is part of the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense. Miller received the award June 9 at ceremonies held at Grissom Air Reserve Base in Miami, Ind.

According to ESGR officials, the Seven Seals Award is the only award that transcends both the employer and volunteer awards and recognizes a significant individual or organizational achievement that is sustained over a considerable length of time that supports the Guard and Reserve. “Dave’s personal commitment and the commitment of his company set an example for others to follow, and we are deeply appreciative of his many contributions to our men and women in uniform,” says David Ellington, executive director of ESGR’s Indiana Committee.

In April, led by Con-way Freight-Central, all three Con-way Freight operating companies received the ESGR’s Above and Beyond Award for their support of the National Guard and Reserve. The company also received the Patriot and Pro Patria awards for their support of the Guard and Reserve. The Pro Patria award recognizes companies whose personnel policies are supportive of employees in the Reserve.
