Landstar System has recognized Solectron, a provider of electronics manufacturing and integrated supply chain services, as its 2005 M.U.S.T. Customer of the Year. The award was presented at Landstar’s annual convention held in Orlando, Fla., at the end of May. M.U.S.T., or Mutual Understanding of Safety Together, is Landstar’s collaborative safety program that brings shippers together with Landstar representatives to develop safer working environments and effective delivery processes.

The program is part of Landstar’s extensive outreach safety effort that includes employees, customers, Landstar’s independent network of capacity providers and agents, and the public. “The M.U.S.T. award serves as an opportunity to recognize companies like Solectron who strive for excellence and are committed to safety, just like we are,” says Henry Gerkens, president and chief executive officer of Jacksonville, Fla.-based Landstar. “Solectron is to be congratulated for helping raise safety and efficiency standards.”

Solectron, together with independent Landstar agent David Kocan and Landstar representatives, devised a method to protect a DVD kiosk system from shipping damage from the company’s facility in Creedmoor, N.C., to distribution points throughout the United States. “Landstar’s collaborative approach has enabled us to improve quality and delivery performance, which in turn enables Solectron to deliver quality products and services to our customers,” says Reid Thompson, Solectron’s senior director of international logistics.
