The Truckload Carriers Association has announced the grand prize winner of the 9th annual Truck Driver Photo Contest is Peter Muir, a company driver for Cassens Transport Co. of Edwardsville, Ill. The contest recognizes talented truck drivers who are also amateur photographers.
Muir is an avid photographer who is a first-time contestant of the contest. His winning photo shows his truck cab lights on at night with a full moon in the background, and the light beam of an oncoming vehicle on the road above. While driving for Euro Transports, his winning photo was taken, with the full encouragement and support of his boss, Herman Goerling, who has the photo hanging in his office. The judges were impressed with the contrasting colors highlighted between his truck and the surroundings. Muir will receive a check for $1,000.
In second place and winning $750 is Fred Schlunt of Arvada, Colo., a driver for Western Distributing Transportation of Denver. Schlunt’s photo is of two blue and white Western trucks driving in front of the beautiful and exquisite desert cliffs of Utah.
Third place is awarded to Wesley Turner, who drives for Seguro Truck Lines of San Antonio. Turner, who will receive $500, has been a driver with Seguro for 10 years and enjoys taking photos in his spare time. His winning photo shows how many unique types of freight our industry hauls, as his red truck hauls a large tree for planting.
Frederick Lazenby of Lindon, Utah, a driver with Western Distributing, is the fourth-place winner. Through his side mirror, Lazenby was able to capture a breathtaking view of a large multicolored cliff in Utah. Over the years, he has taken photos throughout the country for his company calendar and will be receiving $100 for his winning entry.
In fifth place and winner of $100 is K. Colin Robertson of Salt Lake City, a driver for Crete Carrier in Lincoln, Neb. Robertson is no stranger to the TCA Photo Contest, as last year one of his photos won the grand prize. This year his entry features his Crete truck in front of Mount Shasta, which happens to be a dormant volcano, in Weed, Calif.
Sixth place winner of $100 is awarded to Richard Sibole of Benton, Ky., a driver for K&B Transportation of South Sioux City, Neb. His winning photo is of a Coca-Cola truck traveling on the highway near the Salt Lake Desert, with gorgeous mountains in the background.
In addition to the six primary winners, four honorable mentions ($50 prize each) were awarded:
Information about the 2006 photo contest will be available in January. The contest is open to truck drivers who currently are employed with or leased to a trucking company. Photos are available on TCA’s website at www.truckload.org under contests.
