GeoLogic Solutions, a provider of multimode communications and tracking systems, has introduced its new Color Display Unit, a Windows-based touchscreen display that features a high-resolution graphical interface and incorporates several new technologies designed to optimize its use in emerging mobile trucking applications. The CDU will be available as a display option to new GeoLogic customers and as an upgrade for existing users of the company’s MobileMax system.

“The new CDU is a rugged, driver-friendly device that offers fleets a range of enhanced applications, including electronic driver logs, text-to-speech, mapping and onboard navigation with turn-by-turn directions,” says John Lewis, president and chief executive officer of Herndon, Va.-based GeoLogic Solutions. “The open architecture of the Windows CE Operating System allows us to add future functionality and makes it easy to integrate with a broad range of third-party hardware and Windows-based software applications.”

GeoLogic says the CDU is compatible with existing MobileMax systems currently deployed. In addition to adding the benefit of electronic log functionality, the CDU is equipped with industry-standard USB ports located both in the front and rear of the device to further enhance productivity, the company says; by using a standard memory stick, drivers can access training programs and other Windows applications such as their logs and move them easily from truck to truck. The memory stick also can be used to issue a variety of employee communications, such as settlement and compensation statements and fuel efficiency incentive program updates, according to GeoLogic.

“We strongly believe our new CDU will make drivers happy and enable trucking operations to improve their productivity, efficiency and safety performance,” Lewis says. “Drivers will like the ease of use of the graphical touchscreen, while the addition of electronic log capabilities will allow drivers to handle less paperwork while ensuring hours-of-service compliance. It will now be easy to record driving and off-duty time, including the setting of exception parameters to help account for truck movement that is not part of duty hours. This capability streamlines business and data management processes for our customers.”
