Heartland Express said Wednesday, Oct. 18, that its third-quarter profit grew 31.2 percent, aided by a rise in sales and gains from the trade-in of revenue equipment. Quarterly net income grew to $23 million, up from $17.5 million in the prior-year period. Revenue grew 8 percent to $147.1 million from $136.2 million a year ago.
For the nine months ended Sept. 30, operating revenues for the Coralville, Iowa-based company increased 10.8 percent to $425.1 from $383.7 during the same period in 2005. Net income increased 34.3 percent to $67.5 million from $50.3 million in the 2005 period.
