PacLease, a truck leasing division of Paccar Inc., has selected Don Gullett of Lawrence, Kan., as its 2006 Driver of the Year. A driver for Galvmet Inc., a processor and distributor of galvanized steel and sheet metal based in Kansas City, Mo., Gullett has accumulated 3 million accident-free miles over the past 25 years.

Gullett previously has received Galvmet’s “attitude” award for outstanding customer service and has won the company’s Driver of the Year award in all three years that it has been given. He often goes on test drives with prospective drivers to evaluate their performance and knowledge, and he also is the designated company trainer, who accompanies new drivers on two-day runs to introduce them to products and the company’s brand of customer service.

Gullett was nominated for the PacLease Driver of the Year award by MHC PacLease in Kansas City, the franchise that leases trucks to Galvmet. He recently accepted the award in Bellevue, Wash., where the company hosted a dinner for him and his wife, Delores. Gullett also visited Kenworth’s Renton plant to see a new 2007 Kenworth T800 coming off the line; the truck will join four other Kenworths, which will be leased to Galvmet and feature signage on the door recognizing Gullett as the PacLease Driver of the Year.
